The American Southwest

The Landscape in the American Southwest is unique and overwhelming in many respects. Just a few miles from Las Vegas are three incredible parks, each of which is unique to itself. The images in this section begin with the Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada, which is home to brightly colored red sandstone formations. From there, we visit Zion National Park in Utah, one of the most popular national parks in the United States (and for good reason). Zion is home to steep, imposing sandstone cliffs that are multi-colored and offset by deep and equally imposing canyons. We visited the eastern side of Zion during our time there. Finally, Death Valley National Park is in both California and Nevada. Despite its name, this park offers stunning vistas and multi-colored formations that are almost unreal. Equally stunning is Badwater Basin,, which is the lowest point in North America, and to its north are the Mesquite Sand Dunes that are bordered by the Inyo Mountain Range with an elevation of nearly 10,000 feet.
